The
Discount Comedy Checkout is a Leeds based comedy night, which takes place on the
final Sunday of each month. Hosted at the Packhorse pub, close to the city’s
university, the evening blends together an eclectic mixture of character, stand
up and improvisational comedy, all for the discount price of £3.
The
show, which is compared in character by one of the Players,
opens with the hosts performing one of their own unique sketches before swiftly
moving on to introduction of the first of the evening’s stand-ups. Following
two more comics, a caption competition and a short intermission the laughs
return with three more comedians and twenty minutes of improvisation from the Checkout
Players.
Since
its inception, in September 2007, the evening has hosted over ninety different
acts, and has worked hard to promote comedy within the city. The Checkout prides
itself on offering an opportunity for both up-and-coming and established acts to
perform side by side in front of a warm and lively audience.
